Building Boats to Fulfil Dreams
Alessandro Comuzzi’s mission is born from passion and results in tailor-made yachts for each individual client.
A young and innovative Italian designer, Alessandro Comuzzi has turned his passion into a profession. After founding his first design studio in 2013 – Alessandro Comuzzi Architect – he became increasingly active in the nautical field. Not only by collaborating with several French and Italian design studios and taking part in international projects and competitions, but also by expressing his passion for the sea directly, competing in numerous regattas throughout the Mediterranean.
Each time he returned to shore with a few more brilliant ideas to develop, Alessandro began to truly hone his skills by collaborating with important Italian shipyards, including Cantiere De Cesari and Cantiere Carlini. Then, in 2021, the right moment arrived to take an independent step forward, founding his own nautical brand: Comuzzi Yachts. A unique project within the Italian marine industry, born, as Alessandro himself explains, “from the desire to offer each client the best possible service. This means defining the perfect project based on the client’s needs, directly building the yacht and all its components, and—last but not least—supporting the owner all the way through after-sales service. The advantage of having a single point of contact is unparalleled.”
From Home to the Shipyard…
The goal is to help passionate owners turn their dreams at sea into reality—just as Alessandro himself has done. His story began well before the launch of his professional career in 2013.
“When I was just 16,” he recalls with emotion, “I designed and built a catamaran on my own, at home. It was a demanding project, perhaps unusual, but it opened up an entire world for me in terms of design, and especially construction. My first and greatest thanks go to my father, who passed on to me his passion for the sea and for design, and to his library, which allowed me to study and experiment independently.”
He later graduated in architecture and began collaborating with a friend on the construction of wooden catamarans. His next boat arrived in 2011: a 9-meter model that marked a turning point and gave him his first real visibility.
From that moment on, Alessandro Comuzzi never stopped. He became an increasingly recognized name in the Italian design scene—one of the most respected and influential sectors worldwide.
“This is when my ongoing collaboration with high-level shipyards began, and I finally built my first boat with De Cesari, the D950, in 2013. With the Cervia-based shipyard, I then developed several daysailers that helped establish my reputation, particularly as a specialist in wooden construction.”
Design Without Barriers
In 2016 came a new challenge: designing a boat for an owner with motor disabilities, without any compromise on sailing performance—an authentic yacht, fully accessible to everyone.
“It is called the R30, and its defining feature is a wheel steering system without spokes, allowing people with lower-limb disabilities to helm the boat with great pleasure. At the same time, the boat is perceived as completely ‘normal’—and even beautiful—by anyone who loves sailing.”
A challenge successfully met: the model won the MYDA (Millennium Yacht Design Award) and received an Honorable Mention at the Compasso d’Oro, but above all it enabled several owners to fulfill their dream of sailing on equal terms.
Here Are the Boats of the Future
Today and looking ahead, Alessandro Comuzzi is already engaged in new and exciting challenges, driven by his unconventional and distinctive approach to design.
“Since 2021, with the launch of Comuzzi Yachts, I have begun developing the C32 series in collaboration with the Zuanelli shipyard. We have already built four boats, starting with the Custom version and expanding to the Sport and Weekender versions.
The Weekender,” Alessandro explains, “is designed for those who want to enjoy short cruises, thanks to its comfortable interiors.
Those seeking adrenaline and racing performance will choose the Sport version, featuring a flush deck and a clean, unobstructed cockpit.
There is also the possibility to build a truly bespoke yacht with the Custom model, which allows owners to combine elements from the other two versions or introduce completely new features, all based on the same platform.”
The circle is complete: custom design tailored to the needs of each individual owner remains the defining characteristic that has brought Comuzzi Yachts’ distinctive expertise to the market.
“What truly fascinates me,” Alessandro concludes, “is interpreting the client’s wishes in the best possible way and transforming their needs into a concrete project. Those who commission a custom yacht want to cultivate a dream, and giving life to that dream is exactly how I build boats.”
